Johanne Cassia

"CAPTURING THE HISTORY, TRADITIONS
AND THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA"

Johanne Cassia is a self taught, accomplished, American folk artist. She is one of a very limited group of artists that is painting the traditions that we want to pass forward as heirlooms of our heritage. Johanne is passionate about keeping the American Dream alive.

Johanne is one of the only artists that currently re-creates actual 17th & 18th Century landscapes, seascapes and countryscapes in full scale format. As a commissioned artist, Johanne often paints early historical locations into her work. She captures the many aspects of the development of our country that connects us all.

Her work depicts our evolving history and the family traditions we want to share. She allows people to fantasize about how things used to be. Viewers often say they want to “walk into her paintings.”

Johanne is the owner of Olde Ipswich Shop & Gallery. Her work is featured in her shop, in an 1800’s barn on the property she owns with her husband, Frank, In Ipswich, MA. This seacoast town boasts the largest collection of first period homes in America. Their 300 year old colonial home has been featured in Country Sampler Magazine.

Johanne is a lifelong educator and facilitates early American painting classes for all levels of artists. Her studio is on the second level of the barn where she creates her large scale paintings on wood. Her work is photographed in a commercial photography studio and transferred to canvas, greeting cards, prints, stationary, home goods and accessories.
