What Inspires Me to Paint?

As I look back at 2014, I realize that I've had many breakthrough moments as an artist. I've created many new paintings and met so many new people in my classes.

If you've seen my paintings, you know I love to paint houses, villages and countrysides. I feel the architecture of a home says so much about the person who lives there. I always have an inspiration that drives my paintings. I take lots of photos and look through old books, magazines and calendars. I enjoy studying trees, the sky, and landscapes. Colonial history, early homes, holiday traditions and the changing seasons of New England are an integral part of my work. When an idea about a piece gets into my head, I have to paint it.

Painting commissions for people of their homes and buildings gives me great satisfaction and a real sense of purpose. Your home becomes the place that holds your dreams, your memories and your relationships within it's walls.

When I am commissioned to create a piece, whether it's a home, a garden, a small shed or a barn, I need to know what motivated the person to want to have it painted. In the past, I have heard different responses. Some clients want an heirloom piece to pass on to their family while others feel they have made their home or garden a very special personal place and want to see it in a painting.

I'm looking forward to painting many new pieces this year. I have new commissions that will become treasured heirlooms or special gifts. Commission sizes begin as small as an 8" X 10" or 11" X 14". and as large as 24" X 36." Price is determined by size, medium and complexity of the piece. I would love to paint your favorite place large or small.

If you would like to contact me to discuss a possible commission, contact me by email:, call 978-356-8838 or stop by the shop so we can talk about your vision for a painting.

PS: I'm inspired to create a "Series of Special Paintings" that I plan to share with you in upcoming newsletters.
